Principal's Welcome

Welcome From Principal Valerie L. Nelson

My name is Mrs. Valerie L. Nelson and I am your principal.  I am very proud of the work we are doing here at Tisinger.  I am entering my twenty-sixth year as a public school educator.  I have been at Tisinger five of these years.  I have had the pleasure of being an MISD educator for twenty-three years.  I began my teaching career in Mesquite ISD in 1995 at Thompson Elementary as a First Grade teacher.  Since then I have been an Assist. Principal at Shands Elementary and Austin Elementary.  I have had the pleasure to serve as building principal at three different MISD schools, Mary Moss Elementary (2004-2008), Walter L. Wilkinson Middle School (2008 – 2012) and my current placement, Tisinger Elementary (2012 – present).  I have seen so many wonderful changes in Mesquite over the years, but the one thing that has remained the same, is our district’s unwavering commitment to growing our students, teachers and our community.

At Tisinger Elementary, we believe in the possibilities.  We see every child as talented and capable of doing great things.  We operate from the vision that we possess the teachers and talent to prepare our students for success at Tisinger and beyond our walls. Our vision statement is To Inspire a LOVE for Learning in ALL students.  Everything we do in the classroom and during our after school clubs support this belief statement.

We encourage you to join our efforts to make Tisinger the best that it can be.  It takes us all working together and supporting each other for each child to have the full experience while at Tisinger.  Parents we provide opportunities for you to learn what we teach throughout the year.  Make it a priority to get involved as much as you can.

My philosophy of education is that all children can learn.  Given the right environment and the best resources, the sky is the limit.  We see all of our students as high school and college graduates.  We help to plant the seeds in their minds and hearts then, we show them how to get there.  There are many paths to achieving these goals, and we are committed to exposing them to every opportunity within our reach.  We am committed to creating an environment that is teacher ready, print rich and highly engaged.  Together we can do anything.  Welcome to Tiger Country where our kids come first!
