A/V Students at STN Convention

This was by far the best and most highly competitive year of STN says A/V teacher, Shonda Tindall. A/V students represented MISD and Texas with pride and respect.  Here are some highlights:

  • Sessions with professionals from all over the country, but most notably Boyd Huppert from CARE11 in Minnesota who presented for 2 hours! He is one of the best storytellers in the business.
  • Mrs. Tindall presented two sessions: One on how STN is currently creating a comprehensive curriculum with national standards, lesson plans, and projects that suit any school no matter if they are ELA, CTE, Common Core, etc. The other was about her passion project to have STN becoming a recognized CTSO (Career and Technical Student Organization).
  • Of our the five contests students participated in, they met the deadline on ALL OF THEM!  It may not seem like much, but this is a huge accomplishment: students have to start a zero and finish in only six hours.Very proud of them!
  • They had a Top 10 finish in Silent Film and had a strong showing in Short Story. Overall, scores revealed MISD is continuing to improve and be competitive.
  • Probably the most memorable part of convention for all involved was meeting Stoneman Douglas High School students from Parkland, Florida. They are one of our STN affiliates and premiered version 1.0 of the documentary they are making about their tragedy. Many of these students are the same ones you have seen speaking out in the media. It was a very emotional session and one that will resinate with students forever. MISD students plan to keep in touch with them about how they (specifically youth) can help create change within our own schools and have an impact in legislation.

Mrs. Tindall's students are already planning for STN 2019 in Seattle, Washington from March 28-31!!! She encourages all of you to attend with us so you can see what a wonderful experience this is for our students. It is like no other scholastic organization out there!
